A Porsche-specific repair facility contacted us here at Westminster Speed and Sound about doing some work on a 1984 Porsche 911. After speaking to the client, it became evident that they wanted us to provide a reliable upgrade that still looked period-correct.
We began by installing one of the Porsche classic radios in the car. It gives the driver a touchscreen navigation unit, Bluetooth and a USB port in a finished product that looks factory-installed.
The next step was to look over the wiring and the speaker situation. Lots of it had to be updated and/or repaired. A previous owner had installed a low-quality amplifier with shoddy wiring, so we removed that and fixed the wiring to make it look factory again. We also installed upgraded speakers in the factory locations in the doors and side panels.
While working on the car, we noticed it used to have an aftermarket alarm that was not removed properly, so our team went through the process of cleaning it up by soldering new connections, and then applying protective heat shrink and TESA factory-style tape over the repaired area. Once we were done, the 911 had an upgraded sound system along with some 21st-century technology in a safe, reliable and factory-looking install.
