A client from Littlestown, Pennsylvania, came to Westminster Speed and Sound with an unusual request. He had recently purchased a 1991 Nissan Skyline, a very cool car that was never sold in this country. It has developed an international cult following and can now be imported legally. As our team looked over the vehicle with the client, he explained that he wanted a simple upgrade to the sound system, window tint and a security system that had keyless entry. After exploring several ideas, we came up with a plan he liked, so we set a time to begin working on his car.
We began by installing our 3M Color Stable film on the Skyline. It rejects over 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays, so it does a great job of protecting the interior from sun damage. The client also gets heat reduction benefits and, of course, improved cosmetics.
Now it was time to move onto the alarm system. We chose a Compustar CS720A. Since he wanted keyless entry, our team added an actuator in the driver’s door to control the system. Of course, we added starter kill to prevent theft, along with an impact sensor, siren and all entry points being covered.
Finally, we turned our attention to the audio system and installed a Sony XAV-AX5000 CarPlay and Android Auto unit in the dash. We flush-mounted the USB port into an existing cigarette lighter port location, making for a factory look. To improve the audio quality, we installed a set of JL Audio C2-525X speakers up front and a set of Audiofrog GS62s in the rear. These upgrades instantly brought this classic into the 21st century from a technology standpoint.
