A client from Westminster, Maryland, came to Westminster Speed & Sound looking to upgrade his 2010 Toyota Tacoma technology and add some good-quality, low-end bass. Our team took the time needed to look over the vehicle together, sit in it and listen to the stock stereo system, and then go into the sound room and demo some audio equipment. After going through all these steps, we came up with a solution that we thought best fit the needs of our client. He liked our idea, so we set up an installation for him.
JL Audio Power And Subwoofers
We knew right from the beginning that this guy wanted great-sounding bass, so we went right to the JL Audio Stealthbox. This is a custom-fit enclosure that fits perfectly behind the rear seat in the factory storage compartment. It comes with two JL Audio 10W1v3 subwoofers, one of our personal favorite speakers. For power, we went back to JL Audio, choosing the JX500/1D for its combination of small size, great output and reasonable cost. We mounted the amplifier securely under one of the front seats, completely hidden from view unless you slide the seat all the way forward.
We chose the combination of the Stealthbox and amplifier location to give the vehicle a stealth look, meaning the only person who knows there is bass in the vehicle is the owner.
Pioneer Radio Packed With Features
The client also wanted to integrate his smartphone with the vehicle, so we installed a Pioneer AVH-X4800BS in-dash DVD player. It gives the client full control over the music stored on his phone via Bluetooth or the USB port that we conveniently flushed into the console, near the shifter. He also gained hands-free calling and the ability to watch DVD movies when sitting still. For the future, he has upgrade options that include satellite radio and a backup camera. In keeping with the factory-looking theme, we used a color-matched silver installation kit, and we integrated the steering wheel-mounted audio controls with the Pioneer unit.
Final Tuning
When we were finished with the installation, we went into the Pioneer unit and set up the crossover, equalizer and time alignment for the best sound quality. We also connected the JL amplifier to the subwoofer connection on the Pioneer unit, giving him control over the amount of bass added to the music.
Client Pleased With His Tacoma Technology And Bass Upgrades
When the client came to pick up his vehicle, he loved it. He appreciated the fit and finish of our installation work and was very pleased with the added bass.
