A client from Martinsburg, West Virginia, contacted us about adding a backup safety product to his beautiful 2013 Porsche Boxster S. One of our team spent some time getting to know the client to understand his needs. After their discussion, it became evident that a set of rear parking sensors would fit the bill perfectly. Since this was such a nice vehicle, we offered to color-match the sensors and he eagerly agreed to our idea. At that point, our team went over scheduling options and set time to work on the car.
Our team began by removing the rear bumper to ensure the work would look like a factory option. Since a Boxster often has the rear bumper removed for service work, we integrated a set of waterproof, quick-release connectors to the sensor wiring harness. As you can see in the finished pictures, the installation tuned out beautifully. Now, when the client places the Porsche in reverse, he will hear one beep to let him know the system is active. At around 6 feet from an object, the system will emit a slow beep, and around 3 feet, it moves to a fast beep. Finally, if he gets around 18 inches from an object, it goes to a constant tone. As you can imagine, when the top is up, this Boxster has a significant blind spot, so this solution will be a big help.
