A repeat client came to us looking for a second round of upgrades on her 2006 Ford F150 SuperCrew. We had already installed a Sony XAV-AX3200 CarPlay radio in the dash, and now it was time to address the remainder of the audio system. After doing a consultation with her, we created a proposal that she loved, so we set a time to work on her truck.
We replaced the front and rear door speakers with Sony Mobile ES XS-680ES 5×7 coaxials. These speakers offer a dramatic improvement in sound quality over the originals. The owner also wanted the system to deliver bass with lots of authority and impact. As such, we chose a pair of the JL Audio 10W3 10″ subwoofers. Our fabrication department made a custom enclosure to fit perfectly underneath the rear seat and covered it in tan-colored carpet to match the interior. The enclosure perfectly matches the airspace requirements for the JL subs, giving them the ultimate combination of sound quality and output.
When it came time for amplification, we chose a pair of Helix models. Their M ONE X supplies more than 1,000 watts of power to the subs, and an M FOUR provides up to 100 watts of power to each door speaker. We mounted the amplifiers on a custom composite amp rack we fabricated for behind the rear seat.
The final touch was installing Bluetooth-controlled color-changing rock lights in the wheel wells. Now, this pretty truck will attract even more attention in a parking lot.
