The owner of this 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide is from Alabama and heard about the motorcycle speaker and amplifier upgrade we do here at Westminster Speed and Sound. He dropped by our shop to talk about upgrading his Harley stereo to improve its clarity and output capabilities. We’ve done enough of these bikes to know precisely what works to deliver the best listening experience for the money. After auditioning one of our solutions, he gave us the go-ahead to schedule the installation.
Harley-Davidson Speaker Upgrade
Our first step in delivering better sound quality is to installer larger, high-performance speakers in the front fairing. We upgraded the bike with a set of ARC Audio Moto 602v2 coaxial speakers. These 6.5-inch powersports speakers are designed specifically for the challenges of outdoor use and prolonged exposure to heat and vibration. These speakers bolt directly into the enclosures inside the fairing with no need for modifications.
For rear speakers, we turned to the Rockford Fosgate TMS69BL14 kit. This upgrade solution includes a set of mounting brackets and grilles that work with the existing saddlebag covers. This solution eliminates the need for painting aftermarket lids and saves a lot of time. The system includes a pair of high-efficiency coaxial 6×9-inch speakers that sound amazing.
High-Power Motorcycle Amplifier
This client chose the ARC Audio Moto720 amplifier to power his audio system. The Moto720 is not only powerful; it’s one of the most efficient amplifiers in the industry. This efficiency means that the audio system can play louder while drawing less current from the bike’s electrical system. This amplifier is rated to produce up to 150 watts from each of its four channels.
We mounted the amplifier in the front fairing, just above the factory source unit, using an ARC Audio HD-FH2014 bracket and wiring kit. The kit includes real 8-AWG power cable as well as wiring and connectors for the speakers. By using this kit, we don’t have to modify any of the wiring on the bike, so the warranty won’t be affected.
As with all the late-model Harleys we work on, we finished the installation by flashing the Boom! Box radio to reduce the equalizer settings. The stock settings are designed for the basic speakers that came with the bike. This update allows the system to play a lot louder, and it sounds much better with the new speakers.
