A client from Boonsboro contacted Westminster Speed and Sound about a 2017 Chevy Silverado radar and laser detector. One of our team members scheduled a consultation to get together with him and the truck so we could look it over and talk through goals for the upgrade. After spending time with him, we worked up a proposal that he liked, so our staff scheduled time for the work to be performed.
Chevy Silverado Radar Begins with a K40 RL360i
One of our favorite products here at Westminster Speed and Sound is the K40 RL360i custom-installed radar detector. It combines front and rear radar receivers, giving the driver directional alerts of any threat. It is especially helpful when you are going from one speed trap to another. Imagine you are driving toward a radar trap. With the RL360i system, the front indicator would tell you the threat is in front of you. As soon as you passed it, the rear indicator would begin to go off, letting you know you had passed it. You would also see and hear the intensity of the alert drop as you got farther away. Now, if you were heading into a second trap with only a front receiver, you might miss it, thinking it was still the threat behind you. But if you had front and rear detection, both alert indicators would go off, letting you know there are two different threats. Whenever the budget allows, we always suggest doing front and rear radar receivers.
G5 Laser Defusers Protect You from LIDAR
Custom-installed systems and portable radar detectors have several differences, but the biggest difference is in laser. On a portable system, if you get a laser alert, all it did was tell you that it’s time to pull over as you just got a ticket. Since laser is a narrow beam of light aimed at an individual vehicle, a detector can’t give you advanced warning as it does with radar. A custom-installed system takes laser to the next level. When the laser defusers get shot with laser, they immediately fire back powerful beams of light so the laser gun can’t get a reading on you. Now you have precious seconds to slow down and avoid a ticket. In this Silverado, we installed three G5 defusers up front to completely protect that area of the vehicle, and we installed a single G5 defuser in a rear license plate mount.
A Quality Installation Is as Important as the Product
Many shops offer custom-installed laser and radar detectors, but they lack the training and quality control to give a client all the protection available. Westminster Speed and Sound is the only Certified K40 dealer in the Mid-Atlantic. It means we have gone through multi-day training on best practices for the product’s installation. Another difference is how we go about the installation itself. If a bumper needs to be removed for a better installation, we do it, plain and simple. Our team takes the time to properly position the laser defusers straight ahead and parallel to the ground for the best defense. Radar receivers are hidden in an cosmetically appealing area that won’t sacrifice sensitivity. All our connections are soldered and covered with protective heat shrink. Each wire run is neatly loomed and securely fastened to mimic a factory installation. In short, everything we do is designed to maximize your protection while giving you years of reliable service.
Factory-Looking Work in the Interior
When choosing the location for the front and rear alert indicators, we flush-mounted them in the bottom of the gauge cluster shroud aiming up. Under normal circumstances, you can’t even tell they exist. But if you get a front alert, the left indicator lights up. In the event of a rear detection, the right indicator illuminates. We also hid a speaker that announces an alert and is also used when changing settings on the system. An RF-based wireless remote makes for easy control over the system if you need to make any changes.
