As the holiday season approaches, an increasing number of clients in Maryland and southern Pennsylvania ask the staff at Westminster Speed and Sound about buying a remote start as a gift. We think this is a fabulous idea and one that the recipient will appreciate for years. Let’s look at several important factors in buying a starter as a present.
1. Vehicle and Client Information Are Crucial
Knowing the exact year, make, model and trim level of the recipient’s vehicle is necessary for us to design a remote starter system accurately. Ideally, we would see the vehicle – including the key or key fob – in person. We also need to know how much distance the owner will need the remote to cover. Keep this in mind before you start shopping.
2. Never Buy a Remote Starter Online
While the allure of a great price might get your attention, the performance and reliability of remote starters vary from brand to brand. In many cases, stores on Amazon, eBay or Craigslist are not authorized dealers for the products they sell. Manufacturer warranties only apply to products sold by authorized dealers.
3. Always Buy a Remote Starter with Installation
Buying a starter at one place then asking another store to install it can lead to headaches. If there is a problem, there’s a chance they’ll blame each other for the issue. By doing all your shopping at one store, you eliminate this potential problem.
4. Choose a Qualified Professional
When you shop for a remote starter system to give as a gift, do your homework before you head out the door. Is the shop you are considering well respected? Has it been around a long time? How are its reviews? The next step is to visit them. Speak with a member of their sales team. Do they know what they are talking about? Can they explain the options and the process? Is the store clean and organized? If the answers are yes, then this is likely the right place to buy.
5. A Gift Card is an Excellent Option
If you want to give a remote starter as a gift but the quote doesn’t match your budget, consider giving your friend or loved one a gift card. They can choose the system and features they want.

Can I get a ballpark price for remote start for a 2014 Corolla sport? Maybe a hundred foot or less reach? Thinking for a Christmas gift for my daughter. Thank you. Also a backup camera for my 2012 Chevy Silverado. Just ballpark. I wouldn’t hold you to it without seeing the vehicles.
