A client from Owings Mills recently contacted Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about a stereo system, remote car starter, and security upgrade for his 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. After talking to the client about what he wanted to improve in terms of the audio system and his concerns over the vehicle’s risk of theft, we put together an upgrade plan that would offer the features and performance he wanted.
Camaro Stereo System Upgrade
We start the stereo upgrade by replacing the Camaro’s door and dash speakers with 6.5-inch BLAM Live-Series components. Our fabrication team cuts custom acrylic mounting adapters to ensure the new speakers fit perfectly. Next, we mounted matching coaxial speakers in the rear locations to wrap the sound around the occupants and make the system clearer when the roof is down.
We created a custom amp rack in the trunk of the Camaro for a pair of amplifiers and wire protection devices. A four-channel Wavtech Link 300.4 Mini amp runs the front and rear speakers while a KICKER amp powers the subwoofers. We used a PAC interface to extract an audio signal from the Bose factory system to ensure the new equipment would sound great.
The icing on the cake was a subwoofer enclosure for a trio of KICKER CompRT 10-inch subwoofers. The custom enclosure fits into the space under the convertible top stows and is shallow enough that the top still operates flawlessly.
Compustar Car Starter and Security
The client chose the top-of-the-line Compustar T13 remote starter and security system. The system includes a high-output siren, a starter disable and a digital four-way security sensor. The sensor consists of glass breakage, motion, tilt and impact monitoring. We turned off the factory key fobs to protect them from relay attacks. The client can use the long-range T13 remote on the Drone smartphone interface to lock, unlock or start the vehicle.
Baltimore’s Muscle Car Upgrade Experts
It took a few days to complete the upgrades on this Camaro, but the results were impressive. The trio of subwoofers sounds excellent with the roof up or down. Best of all, the client didn’t lose any storage space in the already compact trunk. The client was thrilled with the sound and loved the convenience of the proximity locking and unlocking features of the T13 system.
