A repeat client recently visited Westminster Speed and Sound with his brand-new 2024 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST motorcycle. Harley has made many changes to the current generation of motorcycles. Further, as this is a CVO, it differs from standard 2024 Road Glide bikes.
As usual, we started by listening to some familiar music on the new sound system. We agreed with the client that the new stereo has improved significantly over previous years. However, he still wanted it to play louder to be clear at freeway speed.
The key to this upgrade would be more efficient speakers and a more powerful amplifier. Further, we’d need to ensure everything was correctly integrated with the factory-installed amplifier. In that regard, we used a Wavtech Link2 integration converter to reduce the signal from that amp, making it suitable to feed a new Cicada Audio DSP600.4D amp. We contacted our friends at NVS Audio to acquire one of their integration harnesses, which is made specifically for this generation of motorcycles. The harness eliminates the need to cut any wiring and, thus, won’t void the warranty.
The Cicada Audio amplifier fits into the fairing just in front of the factory amp. We wired it in a two-channel bridged configuration to provide up to 300 watts of power to each of the new speakers.
The client chose a set of ultra-high-efficiency ARC Audio Moto602HD compression drivers for speakers. These unique speakers feature a 6.5-inch midrange and a large-format compression tweeter. The tweeter diaphragm is mounted behind the woofer magnet to keep everything compact enough to fit in the stock speaker locations with no permanent modifications. Further, the speakers fit behind the stock grilles.
The final step was to use the amplifier’s digital signal processor to fine-tune the system’s frequency response. We’ve been working with DSPs for over two decades and are quite well-versed in using them to make audio systems sound great. We used our RTA microphone to ensure there were no peaks or valleys in the system’s response. This ensures every genre of music will sound fantastic.
The client was thrilled with the results and was grinning from ear to ear. The upgrades sound amazing, and the system has no problem being crystal clear at rock concert volume levels. If your motorcycle’s stereo doesn’t perform how you want, drop by Westminster Speed and Sound and talk with a member of our award-winning team.
