A client from New Windsor recently purchased a brand new Chevy Corvette 427 convertible. We love everything about Corvettes, but this one was special. It was the fully loaded special edition 427. They can’t actually call it a “ZO6” since GM has said publicly that they would never release a convertible option, but it technically would be named a 427/ZO6. The customer special ordered this car.
The Need For Curb Avoidance
The car was phenomenal, but there was one issue… This vehicle has very little ground clearance making it somewhat difficult to judge distances and avoid scratching the front fascia. It’s annoying when you hit a curb in any vehicle, but in this case it could lead to very expensive repairs. This customer came to us looking for suggestions for a curb avoidance system. He had been to WSS previously with other vehicles, so he decided we were one of the privileged few facilities that would be allowed to touch this car. We were honored to work on it, and we took precious care of this beautiful beast from start to finish!
Curb Alert Pro
After doing our research, we decided to install a Curb Alert Pro curb avoidance system. This system uses advanced infra-red triangulation technology and specialized software for reliable operation, every time. There is a small, black, weatherproof sensor that we install in the front fascia. The sensor is unobtrusive and is designed to work on any vehicle. The unobtrusive part was VERY important in this situation. We did not want to install anything that would take away from the beauty of this Corvette. We were able to install the sensor in a way that was barely visible, unless you actually bend over and look for it!
Features
The sensor reads when the vehicle is approaching an obstacle. The distance for the alert is adjustable, from 8-28 inches. This way it can be fine-tuned once it is installed on the vehicle, since front bumpers are shaped and sized differently. When the sensor sees an object it will produce and audible warning from a speaker that is hidden discreetly under the driver’s side of the dash. The volume of the alert is also adjustable.
This system is designed to be connected to the vehicles ignition power, so the customer does not need to remember to do anything. It turns on automatically when the key is on, and turns off with the key as well so it cannot drain the vehicle’s battery.
