A client from Woodbine came to Westminster Speed and Sound, interested in having front and rear cameras installed on his 2010 Dodge Charger. One of our team went out to the vehicle with the client and looked it over to explore options together. We realized it had the factory navigation system in the dash, so we knew the cameras could be integrated to display on that screen. One of the main reasons the driver wanted the cameras was for improved depth perception.
After exploring ideas, we gave the client a proposal that he liked, so time was set to begin working on the vehicle. Our install team began by installing an integration module that allowed a video image to be displayed on the factory Dodge navigation screen. We set up the module to show the rear camera automatically whenever the Charger was placed in reverse.
We also integrated a video switcher into the system to allow the front camera to be displayed on the same screen. Whenever the driver wants to see the front camera image, all they have to do is flip the small switch we flushed into the center console, in a convenient spot right behind the shift lever.
When it came time to choose the cameras, our team picked a model that could mount at the top of the license plate, centered on the vehicle. This camera uses a clever mounting design that includes a hidden bracket that gets held in place by the license plate bolts. Both cameras come with a parking line overlay that gave the driver wonderful depth perception.
During our conversation about cameras, the topic of window tint came up. The client picked one of our heat rejection films that also blocks 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. When you factor in the reduction in glare, it makes for a great investment on any vehicle.
Once the Charger install was finished and properly tested, we delivered it to the client. One of our staff went out to the vehicle and showed the client the placement of the cameras as well as how to engage the front camera image. The owner was thrilled with the finished product and knew it would make it a lot easier to navigate in tight spots.
