A repeat client came to Westminster Speed and Sound looking for a blind spot system for his 2016 Ram 2500. Our team went out to the truck, looked it over with the client and talked through the options available for this vehicle. Since this vehicle came equipped with the 8.4” color display radio, we suggested a blind spot system that uses cameras. He liked our idea, so we set time to work on his Ram.
Blind Spot Cameras Strategically Placed
The first step was finding the best mounting location for the blind spot cameras. In this Ram 2500, that location was the bottom of the side -iew mirrors. Our technicians placed them on the part of the mirror arm that stays stationary with the vehicle when the mirrors are folded against the body. We chose a camera with a wide range of adjustment so it could be aimed directly at the blind spot for the truck.
Integrating the Cameras to Work with the Factory Display
In this particular truck, Ram outfitted it with a backup camera as standard equipment. We didn’t want to eliminate any safety features already on the truck but rather, add some new electronics to make driving it even more enjoyable. Our team began by installing an integration module to allow the blind spot cameras to be displayed on the color screen in his dash. We triggered the cameras to work off the turn signals. So, if the client activates his left blinker, the left camera displays on the screen in the dash. If he activates the right turn signal, the right side camera image will show up.
