A client from Finksburg recently contacted the team at Westminster Speed and Sound about adding a radar detector and laser defense system to his 2018 Porsche 911 GTS. This is his dream car and he wanted a protection solution that would help ensure that he wouldn’t start collecting speeding tickets. After inspecting the vehicle and listening to the client’s feedback on driving style, we created a solution that would serve his goals. Let’s look at the system we installed on this immaculate Metallic White 911.
Porsche 911 GTS K40 Radar Detector Solution
The protection system that we integrated into the vehicle is a K40 RL360i. The system provides full front and rear coverage for radar and laser police speed guns while remaining out of sight until needed. We started by removing the front and rear bumper covers so that we could mount the radar antennae and the Laser Defuser Optix transceivers.
The radar antennae can function through the plastic bumper covers with no appreciable reduction in sensitivity.
Laser Defense Solution Ensures Optimal Protection
The installation of the Laser Defuser transceivers is a finicky and precise process. The sensors need to be mounted in a location that has a no obstruction and they must be aligned perfectly horizontally and in line with the centerline of the vehicle. As you can see from the photos, we mounted the front sensors in the outer air ducts to ensure they’d have a clear line of sight.
Easy-to-Use Radar Detector Interface
The RL360i makes use of a hidden speaker and a pair of blue LEDs to alert the driver to a radar or laser signal. We mounted the LEDs in the overhead console. This location allows them to be clearly visible when the system goes into alert mode.
Premium Heat-Rejecting Window Film
While at our store, the client asked us to tint the windows with 3M Crystalline film. Crystalline offers an impressive 97% rejection of IR heat energy from the sun. At the same time, glare is reduced by 55% and 99.9% of skin-damaging UV rays are blocked. We used CR40 film, which has a Visible Light Transmission (VLT) rating of 40% for a classy look that isn’t too dark.
Richmond’s Award-Winning Vehicle Enhancement Specialists
Once the K40 installation was complete, we moved the vehicle outside and tested it with our radar detector and lidar gun to ensure that the system was functioning perfectly. The client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up the vehicle. We explained how to use his new Porsche 911 GTS radar detector and laser defense system and how to care for the newly tinted windows. He was thrilled!
