A client came to Westminster Speed and Sound with his 2013 Ford F-150, complaining about the poor performance of his night-time vision. One of our team looked over the truck with him and talked about options to improve the lighting system. He decided to have us take a multi-step approach and begin by attacking the low beam performance of the headlights.
What you may or may not know is that most factory-installed fog lights are just for cosmetics – they don’t really have much in the way of performance. Adding a set of high-performance units will make a dramatic improvement in your ability to see at night. For this F-150, we chose a set of Rigid lights: their 50211 D2 series model. This is an American-made product that uses LED technology of such high caliber that the lights should outlast the truck itself.
We installed a set of Rigid 46527 brackets so we could mount the lights in the factory fog light spot in the lower front bumper. We integrated the lights into the factory wiring by soldering, heat-shrinking and looming the Rigid wiring to the factory Ford harness. The lights work the exact same way as the original units, using the Ford switch.
When the client came to pick up his truck, he loved the fit and finish of our work and couldn’t wait to try out the new lights later that night.
