A client from Finksburg contacted the award-winning team here at Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about tinting the windows and upgrading the stereo in his 2011 Ford Mustang. The project spanned several visits to the store as we worked through his goals of upgrading the communication technology and the audio system performance.
Step One – Smartphone-Connected Source Unit
On the first visit, our goal was to integrate a JVC KW-M855BW multimedia receiver into the Mustang. This multimedia radio includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration along with a 6.8-inch color display. In addition, we added a Maestro RR interface so that the new radio would communicate with the Shaker 500 amplifier and speakers in the car. The RR interface can also read vehicle information from the CAN network to display details like vehicle speed, engine RPM, and more on the screen of the new radio.
Our technicians mounted an AIS backup camera on the rear of the vehicle so that the client can see objects behind the car when backing into a parking spot or maneuvering.
Step Two – Premium 3M Window Tint
On the second visit, we tinted the windows of the Mustang with 3M Crystalline window film. This state-of-the-art tint film offers exceptional heat-rejection performance to keep the interior of the vehicle cool on hot days. Most impressive of all, the film provides UV protection and IR heat rejection without being dark. The light film adds a perfect touch of class to the Mustang and looks fantastic with the gray paint.
Step Three – Subwoofer System Installation
The third step was to add a subwoofer to the trunk of the Mustang. The client chose a JL Audio SB-F-MUCUPE2/13W3v3 Stealthbox for the car. This vehicle-specific enclosure is constructed from fiberglass and features a 13.5-inch W3v3 series subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. The system bolts into the right corner of the trunk to minimize the impact on cargo-carrying capacity.
We installed a Helix M One monoblock amplifier under the rear parcel shelf to provide the sub with 600 watts of power. Next, our technicians mounted the remote level control that comes with the amp in a convenient location that allows the client to fine-tune the subwoofer output to suit his mood or the music that he’s chosen.
Baltimore’s Best Car Audio Upgrades
With the third stage of the upgrades complete, the client is thrilled with the progress of the audio system. He’s still considering a speaker upgrade and a second amplifier to drive them. When he’s ready for that, we’re here to help. If your muscle car needs an extra kick in audio system performance, drop by Westminster Speed and Sound. You can also reach us by phone or by e-mail if you can’t get to the store.
