A good client recently brought his 2002 Ford F550 to us for several upgrades. This vehicle is mainly just used for towing. He also owns a Cadillac Escalade that has many convenience features and he wanted all the “bells and whistles” in his Ford F550 too! In 2002 Ford did not offer many of the things he was looking for like navigation, Bluetooth, XM satellite radio, backup camera, and iPod/iPhone control. The truck had a very basic radio in the dash, only offering AM/FM and CD. We had the client stop by and experience our sound room, and we then started the project right away.
Ford Navigation Upgrade From Kenwood
For the main source unit in the dash, we chose the Kenwood DNX890HD navigation system. This high quality navigation system gives us all the proper inputs and outputs to create the result this client was looking for. Kenwood has a partnership with Garmin, so the navigation (GPS) is very user-friendly and simple to use. This unit has Bluetooth built-in, and allowed us to add SiriusXM satellite radio, an iPod/iPhone cable for music AND video, and a backup camera. We mounted the backup camera right above the rear license plate, allowing him to easily see the hitch line up as he backed up to his large trailer. “Hooking up” was now a one man operation! The image from our high quality low light camera showed up crystal clear on the navigation touch screen as soon as the truck was shifted into reverse. The 7” screen allowed for a very large and very useful image to appear. The large screen also made it extremely easy to navigate through the music on his iPhone, as well as scrolling through channels on SiriusXM satellite radio.
Great Sounds While Navigating The Roadways!
This client was also interested in improving the sound of his stereo with a speaker upgrade. The original paper speakers from 2002 were worn out and did not sound very good at all. After carefully listening to many sets of speakers in our sound room, he chose a set of German Maestro Epic speakers for the front and German Maestro Concept speakers for the rear locations. The Epic series speakers are truly incredible. Their ability to reproduce quality sound is unmatched in their price range. In this truck they sounded so good that he said “This makes the Bose stereo in my Escalade sound horrible!” The Concept speakers in the rear added just enough good quality rear fill to create an overall great sounding stereo.
This makes the Bose stereo in my Escalade sound horrible!
The list of upgrades for this Ford F550 was long, but we were able to complete the project in one day. The client was very pleased with every aspect of the finished job, and he will continue to bring his vehicles to us for upgrades such as navigation, Bluetooth, backup cameras, iPod/iPhone integration, and satellite radio. If any of these features interest you feel free to give us a call, Contact Us, or stop by our top-notch facility and let us demonstrate to you all the different types of technology we have to offer!
