A client from Hanover came to Westminster Speed & Sound with his 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, looking to add CarPlay to his vehicle. One of our team looked over the truck with him to see how it was equipped from the factory. After exploring options, the client settled on the Alpine iLX-107 wireless version. This model is unique in that it communicates with an iPhone via WiFi so it doesn’t need a cable. During our conversation, we explored the idea of adding a backup camera, and that became part of the project as well.
On the day of the installation, our technicians began by doing a detailed check in procedure to ensure everything was in proper working order. We use that same procedure when checking out the Jeep to make sure everything is 100% as it should be.
When it came time to install the Alpine unit in the dash, we were able to integrate it with the factory steering wheel controls and the factory USB port. The client even gained some new information about his vehicle, including an easy way to monitor tire pressure. This is especially helpful when going off-road.
For a backup camera, we went back to Alpine, choosing their Wrangler-specific HCE-TCAM1-WRA model. It incorporates a new third brake light, eliminating the need for the unsightly factory unit. It even includes an LED light to illuminate behind the vehicle when backing up, allowing the camera to display more-detailed images to the driver.
This truck is now primed for some sound upgrades and we have several different packages for our Jeep owners.
