A repeat client from Frederick recently brought his 2021 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited to Westminster Speed and Sound for a high-power stereo system upgrade. The client wanted a sound system that would play much louder than the one that came with the bike. After he listened to our demo bike, we put together a system design to ensure that his music would be amazing, even on the freeway.
ARC Audio and Rockford Fosgate Stereo Upgrade for Harley Ultra Limited
Before we dove into the upgrades for the amplifier, speakers and wiring, we placed protective covering on the front fender and fuel tank and stored the saddlebags in protective holders away from the work area. Making sure the paintwork on the bike is protected and pristine is a top priority for us.
We removed the stock speakers in the front fairing to make way for a set of ARC Audio Moto 602 6.5-inch coaxial drivers. We also removed Tour-Pak speakers on both sides of the rear seat to install a second set of these weather-resistant powersport speakers from ARC Audio.
To add more output and a little more punch to the sound, we added one of the Rockford Fosgate TMS69BL14 bag lid speaker kits to the saddlebags. Unlike other speaker upgrade solutions that might require custom painting new lid covers, the Rockford kit includes new grilles and speaker mounts that work with the existing covers. The design of this kit lets us integrate this system in a few hours instead of a few days while ensuring that everything looks great.
High Power Motorcycle Amplifier
An ARC Audio Moto 720 amplifier powers the new speakers. This four-channel amp is installed in the front fairing above the radio using a plate and wiring harness from ARC Audio. All the speaker and signal connections use OE-grade connectors to keep the motorcycle’s warranty intact.
The four-channel amp produces up to 180 watts per channel to let the client play his music loudly without fear of the amp distorting. A bonus of this particular amp is that it’s amazingly efficient. That means it makes the most of the power it draws from the battery and doesn’t get as hot as some lesser solutions.
Baltimore’s Best Motorcycle Audio Upgrades
Next, we re-flashed the radio with our TechnoResearch programmer to improve the sound quality of the upgrade. We finished the project by setting the controls on the amp so that it would work perfectly with the output of the factory radio.
The client returned to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up his bike and was thrilled with how it looked and sounded. So if you’re looking for better sound from your motorcycle, drop by our store, give us a call or send our team an e-mail. We’d be happy to help you make your next ride more enjoyable.
