When I bought my car, I decided right away that I wanted to have a backup camera and parking sensor system installed. I’m so glad that I did. As well as I focus while I’m driving, there are still occasional times when I may get distracted. In the past, just running over a large rock in someone’s driveway caused hundreds of dollars in damage to the underside of my vehicle. Now, my camera and sensors have saved my car from costly repairs probably more times than I know about. Trying to parallel park with kids screaming and car seats blocking my view used to be a very difficult task that has become much easier. Blind spots are no longer a threat and parking in the dark is now a piece of cake. Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it?
Backup Cameras
Let me tell you a little about these products. The camera is usually installed above the license plate on the back of your vehicle. Westminster Speed & Sound can also install a camera on your front bumper if you are concerned about scraping the curb or evaluating the distance in front of you.
The camera is very small; it’s about a 1’’ cube that hides very well. Unless you look closely, no one will even know from the outside of your vehicle that you have a camera. There are also a few options when it comes to the monitor on the inside of your vehicle. If your car came with a screen in the dash, that screen can often be used as the display for your new camera. You can also choose to have a new rearview mirror installed that has an embedded color monitor in it. While driving, this looks like a regular mirror, but when the vehicle is placed in reverse, the camera image appears on the mirror.
Parking Sensors
When it comes to parking sensors, you can also choose to have them installed in the front, rear or both ends of your vehicle. These sensors are also quite unnoticeable. They are about the size of a quarter and can be custom-painted to match the color of your vehicle.
How A Parking Sensor System Works
Wondering how they work? They send ultrasonic waves that reflect off any object around your vehicle. You will hear a beep as you approach an object. The closer you get, the faster the beeping noise will be. No more running over your kids’ toys in the driveway or bumping into other cars in the parking lot.
