We were approached recently by a Baltimore area car dealer that was having an issue. They had a 2007 Honda Civic where the radio was not communicating with the steering wheel controls. After they priced out replacing the radio with a new unit from their own parts department, they decided to contact us at Westminster Speed and Sound to compare pricing. We were able to sell them a new CD player for several hundred dollars less than a new unit from Honda and give them some additional features. We chose to install a Kenwood DPX-308U CD player in the dash. This unit works with the steering wheel controls perfectly and it has a front mounted USB port to allow full control of an iPod or iPhone. It will also allow a customer to put music on a thumbdrive and play it through the Kenwood CD player. The new unit also has a bright, bold display that is easy to read under all lighting conditions. The color of the display can also be adjusted to match the factory dash colors. As you can see from the picture of the original radio, the 2006-2011 Honda Civic has a very unusually designed radio when it comes from Honda. We were able to use an install kit that allowed us to match the color of the dash. As you can tell from the finished photos the Kenwood unit looks right at home in the dash. To some people it even looks like a cosmetic upgrade. So in the end the dealer was able to give their customer all the features of the original radio plus some new features, all the while saving money over replacing the original radio. I think everybody won in this deal.
