The owner of this 2020 Jeep Gladiator dropped into Westminster Speed and Sound to ask about options for improving the audio system in the vehicle. As is typical with many Jeeps, the sound system wasn’t very clear, didn’t play loudly enough and didn’t produce enough bass. We showed the client a new Stage 6 Tuned Speaker and dedicated subwoofer upgrade kits from MB Quart. He knew right away that this was exactly what his truck needed.
MB Quart Jeep Gladiator Upgrade
The Stage 6 kit from MB Quart includes a set of 3.5-inch coaxial speakers for the dash, two 6.5-inch midbass drivers with dedicated enclosures for the dash’s lower part, and a pair of coaxial 6×9 speakers for the overhead sound bar. The kit also includes a pair of 400-watt two-channel amplifiers and a Jeep-specific mounting plate.
We started the upgrade by taking apart the lower section of the dash to remove the small OEM speakers and their enclosures to make way for the larger MB Quart woofers. This process takes a while, as more than three dozen fasteners keep everything secure. After we bolted the new enclosures to the factory fastener locations, we installed the 3.5-inch coaxial speakers on top of the dash.
The next step was to replace the rear speakers. The MB Quart kit includes a set of 6×9 speakers for the overhead sound bar and a set of cutting templates. Our team traced the cutting pattern, then installed the mounting plates and the speakers. The original grille fits back over the new upgrades, so everything looks original.
Amplifier and Subwoofer Installation
The subwoofer enclosure fits nicely under the rear seats and includes a pair of 8-inch long-throw subwoofers. The subwoofer enclosure replaces the storage compartment under the seats and is secured by the same four bolts, so everything is safe. The MB Quart subwoofer kit includes a 400-watt amplifier. The mounting plate under the front seat has room to accept this third amplifier to keep the whole thing tidy.
The speaker and subwoofer kits include all the harnessing needed to run new speaker wires to the MB Quart drivers. We used a PAC AP4CH41 interface to extract a clean audio signal from the factory radio and send it to the trio of compact amplifiers.
Maryland’s Jeep Audio Upgrade Experts
We wrapped up the project by setting all the levels on the amplifiers to ensure that the system would play loudly without any distortion. When he returned to our shop, the client hopped in for a listen and was stunned at how much better everything sounded. It was loud and clear, and the bass was tight.
