A repeat client from Forest Hill contacted Westminster Speed and Sound about upgrading his 2017 Jeep Wrangler radio along with some other technology. One of our team members looked over the truck with the client and spent time listening as he explained his goals for the upgrades. Once we were finished at the truck, our team showed him products that we thought would meet all his needs. He liked our ideas so we discussed a time to begin working on the vehicle.
Jeep Wrangler Radio Now Has Android Auto and Embedded Navigation
First things first: This client is an Android user through and through. So the first topic we covered was Android Auto, the safest way to harness the technology of a smartphone in your truck. He also wanted to have embedded navigation, since his travels often take him to remote areas where Google Maps may not work well. Based on these discussions, we suggested the Pioneer AVIC-8201NEX unit. He gained all these features and more along the way. Our team integrated the factory steering wheel-mounted audio controls to work with the Pioneer unit and flushed a total of three USB ports into the center console. Two of them are for charging and one is for music control.
Eliminating the Jeep Blind Spots
If you’ve driven a Wrangler, you know there’s a significant blind spot when backing up. For this reason, our team installed a backup camera in a clever spot inside the spare tire near the top spoke. Now, whenever the truck is placed in reverse, the driver gets a clear view of what’s behind him.
Fully Featured Alarm and Remote Start for Search-and-Rescue Dogs
The next step in the technology upgrades was an alarm and remote start system. This client owns search-and-rescue dogs, so he had several specific needs for this system:
- It had to be able to tell him the temperature inside the truck.
- The runtime had to be at least 45 minutes at a clip and have the capability to be remote started multiple times if needed.
- He needed an extra-long-range, two-way remote control that could work in tandem with a smartphone-controlled system.
- It had to have an alarm system that would alert him if anyone tampered with the Jeep.
For all those reasons, we suggested a Compustar Drone system with the T11 two-way remote control. This package gives him up to 3 miles of range through the remote itself, along with unlimited range with the Drone smartphone system as long as he has Internet access on his phone.
Hardwired Radar Detector
The final piece of the puzzle was to hardwire his portable radar detector so he didn’t have any wires strewn across the dash. On many vehicles, we can also add one of our Blendmounts so the detector itself can be securely mounted right near the rearview mirror.
