A client from Manchester came to Westminster Speed and Sound in search of an upgraded 2014 Dodge Challenger audio system. After looking over the car, listening to the stock stereo system and getting to know the client, we worked up a proposal that best fit his needs. He liked our proposal, but asked if we could do the work in two stages, so this is the first phase of the upgrade.
Our technicians began by installing HushMat sound damping material on the inner door skin. This served two purposes. First, it reduced the road noise that comes in through the doors, making the interior quieter. Second, it will eliminate any rattling or vibration incurred from adding more power to the audio system.
The next step was adding more power to the system, so we installed a JL Audio XF500/3v2 amplifier in the spare tire well, hidden from view. It sends 75 watts to each front speaker and 300 watts to the Stealthbox subwoofer enclosure that we bolted into the driver’s-side rear trunk area. It houses a JL Audio 12W3v3 subwoofer, sounds great and looks like a factory-installed option. A bass level control knob was placed in a convenient spot upfront, allowing the driver to easily control the amount of bass added to the music. The next phase will be installing upgraded front speakers to round out the sound quality of the system.
