Recently a customer came in with a beautiful 1966 Mustang fastback styled after the rare GT350H cars that Hertz used to rent. They wanted to improve the sound quality of the vehicle without chopping it up. They also wanted the capability of playing their iPod in the vehicle. We had the perfect solution for them. Custom Autosound has released the USA-66 radio for this car that is a perfect replica of the factory radio yet has modern advancements. The dash opening for the radio had been modified slightly before we received the car but fortunately the previous owners did not ruin it. They just put a few bumps and bruises around the radio opening if you look closely. The owners now get 20 watts per channel of power and have a controller for the iPod. It also looks great in the dash. This car originally came with one speaker in the dash for the stereo system. Not a good choice if you want to take the full advantage that modern electronics have to offer. So again we turned to Custom Autosound. They make replacement kickpanels styled like the factory originals except now they have mounting capabilities for a 6″ speaker. So we installed JL Audio TR600-CXI coaxial speakers in these kickpanels. This is a world of improvement over the single speaker in the dash.
All in all I think it turned out well. The customer got a vastly improved sound system while keeping the integrity of their car intact. They can now play their iPod in the Mustang and drive down the road listening to the beautiful harmony of their 289 or their Van Halen. Life is good!
