A client from Owings Mills came to Westminster Speed and Sound with his 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in search of some lighting upgrades. He had done some searching online and liked some of our previous work, so he decided to drive to our store and check us out for himself. One of our team members spent significant time on getting to know him better and understanding his goals for the upgrades.
We looked over the Jeep to see how it was equipped and then showed him several options on our interactive lighting display. We showed him some of the other products we offer, and he was drawn to our remote starter display. At the end of our discussion, we worked up a proposal that he liked, so we set time to work on the vehicle.
Lighting Improvements for Daily Use
If you own a Wrangler, then you already know how poor the headlights are on your Jeep. That meant the first order of business for this client was to significantly improve the lighting he would use every day. We began the upgrades with a set of JW Speakercraft replacement LED headlights. They are DOT-approved, meaning they are legal for use in all 50 states. Both the low beams and high beams are now precision projector optics that dramatically extend his night-time vision without blinding oncoming traffic. The lights themselves give off a color very close to natural sunlight, dramatically improving the driver’s ability to see dark objects at night. They also come with integrated halo rings, giving them a classy touch.
Rigid Overhead Bar Makes a Bold Statement
The next stage in the lighting upgrade was a Rigid Industries 50” E-Series combo light. This model is called a hybrid since it combines a long-range spot pattern with a wide-range floor pattern, making for an incredible long-range coverage area. Rigid singlehandedly created the LED light bar industry, and this is part of their Made in America product with a lifetime guarantee against defects. While their product costs more money than the imitations, the first time you light one up, you will know it was a great investment – and 10 years later, when it still looks and performs the same as when it was new, you will appreciate the investment you made.
Our team used the custom-fit Rigid Industries brackets to mount the bar across the top of the windshield.
Dually Lights Round Out the Package
Since this client wanted both a lot of light and to make the Jeep look more rugged, we mounted two sets of Rigid Industries Dually lights at the base of the windshield. We used a custom bracket to hold one set of their flood lights and a second set of their spot lights. This combination works just like the overhead bar, giving the driver a wide beam pattern coupled with a long-range field of view.
An Installation Designed to Last as Long as the Lights
Too many times at Westminster Speed and Sound, we have seen great products that have been poorly installed. To the end user, that means reliability issues, decreased resale value and inferior performance. Our team is tasked with performing installations that have a quality that meets or exceeds those of a vehicle manufacturer. That means we solder every connection with protective heat shrink, cover all harnesses with protective loom, and run them all in a way that allows for easy serviceability in the future.
We installed a total of three illuminated switches in the lower dash to control the lights. They are all triggered via the ignition, so the client never has to worry about accidentally leaving them on.
A Remote Start and Backup Alarm Wrap Things Up
Another thing that Wrangler owners know is their Jeep gets cold in the winter, so a remote start is a great option. This client often has to park long distances away from his vehicle, so we installed a Compustar T11 two-way system that has three times longer range than any other unit on the market. The two-way technology gives him confirmation back to his remote that the Wrangler has started or the doors have been locked. He can even check the temperature inside his Jeep before starting it, so he knows how long it will need to warm up.
The final piece of the puzzle was a backup alarm that alerts people around him when he is coming out of a parking spot. It is a great addition in a crowded parking lot since it lets people know for sure that you are in reverse.
So Happy his Wife Became a Client
When our client came to pick up his Jeep, he brought his wife with him – another Wrangler owner. They were so pleased with our work that she became a client as well.
