A client from Parkville came to Westminster Speed and Sound, looking to modernize the electronics in his 2005 Toyota Tundra. Our team looked over the vehicle and spent time on getting to know him better. Once we realized he owned an Android smartphone, we suggested a unit with Android Auto, the safest way to harness the power of an Android phone while driving. We let him see the software in action and he knew it was perfect for him.
For this reason, we installed a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX unit in his dash. It gave him Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming, as well as HD radio and a 7″ touchscreen display. We flushed a USB jack into the lower dash that can be used to charge electronics or play music from an iPod or thumb drive.
While we had the truck, our technicians installed a backup camera centered above the license plate that provides a display on the Pioneer screen whenever he puts the truck in reverse. We used a unique integration device that allowed us not only to keep the steering wheel audio control working, but remap the functions so he could use them to answer and hang up phone calls. Since this truck was an ’05 model, it didn’t have phone buttons, so this was a great convenience feature for the client.
When he came to pick up his truck, one of our staff sat in it with him and went over the operation of all the new equipment. As we explained everything to him, he was thrilled with his decision.
