A client from Baltimore recently visited Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about paint protection film and radio upgrade options for his 2008 Porsche 911 Targa 4S. We had a look at the vehicle to determine which surfaces would benefit most from protective film, then talked to the client about what features he felt the radio was missing. With a firm understanding of the client’s expectations, we showed him an Android Auto-equipped multimedia receiver that we felt would fit his needs. He liked our plan and agreed to schedule an installation appointment.
Sony Multimedia Receiver Upgrade
The upgrade project started with the removal of the factory radio from the dash of the Porsche in preparation to receive a Sony XAV-AX200 DVD receiver. We used a head unit replacement kit and integration interface from Nav-TV to allow the new Sony radio to work with the factory Bose amplifier and speakers. As you can see from the photos, the fit and finish of the kit is excellent, and the client can continue to use the radio buttons on the steering wheel with the upgraded receiver.
We added a Nav-TV lip-mount backup camera just above the rear license plate to make maneuvering and parking the Porsche faster and safer. The camera image appears on the screen of the new radio as soon as the transmission is in reverse.
Along with the high-quality Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free calling features, support for MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC digital media files and of course CD and DVD playback, the new Sony receiver includes Android Auto smartphone integration. Android Auto allows the client to make phone calls, send text messages, choose music and get navigation instructions using the voice recognition features of his Android-based smartphone. This interface makes communication much safer than having to navigate menus on a radio screen.
Porsche 911 Paint Protection Film Installation
With the audio upgrade complete, the next step was to prepare the vehicle for the installation of 3M Scotchgard Pro Series 4.0 on the most vulnerable areas of the vehicle. With the paint surfaces spotless, we applied the computer-cut film to the entirety of the front bumper, the leading edge of the hood and the front fenders of the vehicle.
A high-quality protective film like the Scotchgard Pro Series we use protects the vehicle against stone chips, nicks and scratches from road debris and scuffs. The film can also resist staining from road tar and bird droppings to help keep this immaculate vehicle looking like new.

We reviewed the features of the new Sony radio and helped him set up his smartphone to make phone calls, stream music and use Android Auto. The client loved the clarity of the backup camera and was impressed with how well the paint film blended into the finish of the vehicle.
