We are asked this question all the time. The short answer is: Sure you can! But I am confident that you want more information than that! Read on.
In the past, if you wanted a remote start installed on a manual transmission car the most common way to do it was simply bypass the safety features on the car and tell the customer to make sure the car was in neutral. That was a bad idea! And something we would never do. Then one of our vendors came out with a simple, but effective way to guarantee the vehicle was in neutral. Here is how it works;
You pull into your parking spot. You put the car in neutral and set the emergency brake while your foot is on the brake pedal. Pretty easy so far, eh? After you set the emergency brake and take your foot off of the brake pedal you just wait 3-5 seconds and then turn the key off. The engine is going to stay running because the remote start has turned itself on. You now exit the vehicle. After the last door is shut the engine will shut off and the doors will automatically lock. That is all you have to do. You see, the remote start system knows you got out of the vehicle while it was running. So it KNOWS it must have been in neutral. As long as no one opens any of the doors then the vehicle MUST still be in neutral so it is safe to start.
That is it. Most of the time we have an employee around with a remote start system on a manual transmission vehicle that can gladly give you a live demonstration of this feature so you can see how easy it is.
