A client from Glenwood recently visited Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about upgrading his 2011 Porsche 911 C4S with heat-rejecting window tint and a radar detector and lidar defense system. We’ve worked on many of Stuttgart’s finest and know how best to integrate radar detectors into these vehicles. We showed the client several options for window tint so he could choose the performance level and look he wanted. Once we had a plan in place, our team provided the client with a detailed quote to deliver the solutions he wanted.
Porsche 911 Radar and Lidar Defense
The first task was to integrate a K40 RL360i radar detector into this 911. We removed the bumper covers so our technicians could mount the front and rear radar antennae securely. Next, the technicians mounted three K40 Optix Laser Defusers to the front of the vehicle. We mounted one in the center grille and one in each of the side grilles to ensure that this Porsche would have reliable protection against police lidar systems. Finally, we installed a Laser Defuser G5 license plate frame to the rear of the vehicle.
Intuitive Radar Detector Interface
A key feature of the K40 system is that it doesn’t require a large display to be mounted in the interior. The system comes with a pair of small blue LEDs and a speaker to alert the driver of radar or lidar. Our team integrated the LEDs into the instrument cluster. The left LED is behind the airbag warning indicator and the right LED is behind the seatbelt reminder indicator just below the tachometer.
Heat-Rejecting Window Tint
The client wanted a window film that would provide excellent UV protection and help to keep the car cool on hot days. He chose 3M Crystalline film and asked us to tint all the windows. Unlike conventional films that use dyes or carbon to block heat and light, Crystalline is constructed of 200 microscopic layers. The film is almost completely clear, yet it blocks 99% of UV rays and rejects 97% of the infrared energy from the sun to keep the vehicle’s occupants safe and cool.

After several days of work, we had this K40 radar and lidar defense system installed on the client’s Porsche 911. When he returned to Westminster Speed and Sound, a member of our team showed him how to use the K40 system and explained how to care for the window tint. The client was very happy with the results.
