A client from Sykesville visited Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about upgrading his 2016 Mercedes-Benz S550 with a radar detector and premium heat-rejecting window tint. A member of our sales team inspected the vehicle, then worked with the client to design a protection system that would help prevent speeding tickets. We showed the client several tint film options and explained the benefits of each solution.
K40 Police Radar Detector
Our client didn’t want to take any chances and opted for a K40 RL360i radar detector with its integrated laser defusers. We removed the front and rear bumper covers to allow for the installation of the radar antennae. The rear receiver is mounted to the chassis of the car, and we installed the front receiver so that it has a clear line of sight through the front grille to eke out every ounce of signal sensitivity.
Police Laser Defense System
To protect the client from police laser guns, we mounted three K40 Laser Defuser Optix transceivers on the front of the vehicle. The placement and alignment of the Defuser Optix sensors are crucial to the reliability of the system. The sensors are mounted so that they are perfectly parallel to the road and aimed directly forward to provide long-range performance. Failure to comply with these and several other installation requirements can dramatically reduce the reliability of the system.
3M Heat-Rejecting Window Tint
The client chose 3M Crystalline window tint for its amazing IR- and UV-rejecting properties. After cleaning and prepping the windows, we cut the Crystalline film on our computer-controlled plotter. We never cut film on the vehicle as the sharp knife could damage the glass, the trim around the windows or rubber seals. Treating our clients’ vehicles with care and respect is our top priority. We’d never use it as a cutting board.
Crystalline film blocks 99.9% of UV rays to protect clients from skin damage. 97% of the infrared energy from the system is rejected to help keep the interior cool. Unlike ceramic films, Crystalline uses 3M’s optical film nanotechnology to blend more than 200 layers to create a film that’s thinner than a Post-It Note.
Baltimore’s Automotive Enhancement Experts
With the radar detector integrated into the vehicle and the tint installed, it was time for the client to return to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up his gorgeous Mercedes-Benz S500. We provided the client with a thorough explanation of how to use the K40 system and how to care for the freshly installed tint.
