The owner of this 2019 Ford Expedition traveled from nearby Reisterstown to Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about the installation of a radar detector and laser defense system. The client already owned a radar-only Escort iX Ci system from a previous vehicle and sought our expertise in ensuring that it would provide proper protection in his new SUV. A member of our team inspected the vehicle and talked to the client about the placement of the display and controller, and how we could upgrade it to provide lidar defense. With a plan in place, we scheduled an appointment to begin the integration.
Ford Expedition Radar Detector Installation
The project started with our team removing the front bumper of the SUV so that we could mount the radar-receiving antenna to the bumper support. High-frequency radar signals pass through plastic bumpers with almost no attenuation. As such, concealing the radar antenna helps keep the installation looking clean and tidy.
Laser Shifters Provide Advanced Protection
We suggested using a trio of Escort ShifterMax laser transceivers to cover the front of the large vehicle. Our team mounted two sensors just beneath the front grille of the truck to cover the area around the headlights – a common target for lidar systems. The third sensor is mounted just below the front license plate to cover this second-most-popular target location. All the wiring for the sensors is bundled, secured and routed carefully to the controller under the dash.
Escort Radar Controller and Display
The client knew where he wanted us to mount the control panel and display for the Escort iX Ci system. The display is in the instrument cluster, just below the tachometer on the left side. We mounted the controller to the dash, just to the left of the steering column. The display location is very easy to see, and the controller can be accessed quickly when the client needs to cancel the laser shifting signal once he’s sure his speed is safe.
Baltimore’s Radar and Laser Defense Experts
With the radar detector and laser defense system installed and tested, the client returned to pick up his Ford Expedition. We explained how best to use the system to prevent speeding tickets, including the all-important jam-to-kill procedure. The client was very happy with the installation and appreciated our expertise. If you’re in the market for a radar detector, we invite you to visit Westminster Speed and Sound. A member of our award-winning team would be happy to inspect your vehicle and explain the options available.
