A client from Columbia recently contacted the team at Westminster Speed and Sound to ask about new speakers and a radio for his amazing 1995 Porsche 911. The client reported that the stereo sounded terrible and he’d like to update the entire system while keeping everything looking period-correct. As Porsche fanatics, we knew exactly what audio equipment this car needed to keep up with the supercharged flat-six engine in stunning Iris Blue Metallic 993.
Blaupunkt Radio Modernizes Technology
We offer several radio upgrade solutions that are tailored specifically to maintaining the appearance of these classic Porsches. For this vehicle, the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 was a perfect choice. While the styling and controls are decidedly retro, the radio features a USB port and SD card slot to play digital media files. The radio is also equipped with Bluetooth, so the owner can stream music or make hands-free phone calls.
Porsche Speaker Upgrade Delivers Amazing Sound
As you can see in the photos, the original speakers in the doors of the 911 had failed completely. We suggested a set of BLAM 165RX 6.5-inch components to deliver crystal-clear sound. Our team integrated the new speakers into the doors in a way that maintains the look and feel of the interior. We were even able to install the new tweeters inside the factory pods above the door handles.
ARC Audio Amp Brings Music to Life
The icing on the cake for this upgrade was an ARC Audio KS 125.2 BX2 two-channel amplifier. Our team mounted this compact amplifier on the floor of the vehicle under the passenger seat. We used a Stinger power wire kit to connect the amp to the radio and battery. Our technician wrapped all the wiring to and from the amp in automotive-grade cloth tape to keep it secure and prevent it from buzzing or rattling while the vehicle is in motion.
Aside from the prodigious power product capabilities and compact size, what makes this amplifier an ideal solution for this application is its BX2 processing. This bass processor is perfect for audio systems that don’t have subwoofers. Once adjusted, the system will sound like it’s producing bass that’s a half-octave lower than the low-frequency cutoff of the speakers. Most impressively, the processing doesn’t increase the load on the speakers the way an equalizer would. The result is a full, rich sound and great output capabilities — a perfect solution for this application.
Baltimore’s Porsche Upgrade Experts
After a long day of work, we had the radio, speakers and amp installed in this Porsche 911 Carrera. The client was thrilled with the sound.
