A repeat client from Frederick, Maryland, came to Westminster Speed & Sound looking for a second round of upgrades for his 2013 Subaru BRZ. In the first round of upgrades, we added a JL Audio Stealthbox that holds a 10TW3-D4 10” subwoofer in a fiberglass enclosure, tucked into the passenger side cubbyhole of the trunk. We powered the subwoofer with an Arc Audio KS500.1mini amplifier that we installed under his driver’s seat. We placed a bass-level knob conveniently in the dash, allowing him to easily control the amount of bass added to the music. The bass upgrade was interfaced directly with the factory Subaru navigation system.
For this round of upgrades, we wanted to focus on getting the client much better sound quality out of his front speakers, along with enough power for them to could keep up with the currently installed subwoofer system.
Audiofrog Components A Great Choice
The client spent time in our state-of-the-art sound room, listening to the different speaker models we suggested. He settled on a set from Audiofrog, going with the GS series components. It comes with the GS60 6.5” woofer that we installed in the factory location in the door using custom composite mounts. We installed HushMat damping material on the doors to accomplish two different goals. First, it lowers the road noise coming into the vehicle, making for a quieter ride. Second, it eliminates the possibility of the door panel rattling or vibrating from the installation of new, high-performance speakers.
For a finishing touch, we installed our FAST Rings around the woofers. This is a wonderful, inexpensive upgrade that couples the speaker to the door panel opening, increasing the midbass output of the speaker.
We mounted the Audiofrog GS10 1” tweeter securely in the factory location in the dash, again using a custom composite speaker mount. Once the front speakers were installed, we reused the factory grilles, in keeping with the factory-looking theme chosen by the client.
Matching Arc Audio Mini Amplifier
When it came time for an amplifier for the front speakers, we went back to Arc Audio, choosing the KS125.2 mini amplifier. It is a great-sounding amplifier that works great with the amp chosen to power the sub. We securely mounted the 125.2 amp under the passenger seat and, just like the sub amp, integrated it with the factory navigation system. The combination of these two amplifiers gives the client almost 700 watts of clean power. Now, when he wants to hear one of his favorite songs, he can easily listen at concert-level volumes for as long as he likes.
Client Loved The Complete Sound Of His Subaru BRZ Audio System
As they say, the proof is in the pudding, meaning the sound system has to be liked by the client. Fortunately, he loved these new upgrades, feeling like his sound system was now complete.
