A client from up in Brogue, Pennsylvania, recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound team about upgrading the sound system on his 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. After talking with the client about his upgrade goals, it was evident that the Rockford Fosgate HD14RGSG-STAGE3 audio upgrade was the perfect solution.
Installing Rockford’s Harley Street Glide Stage 3 Audio Upgrade
When the gorgeous black Harley arrived at the shop, our team immediately set to work removing the front fairing and the bag lids to begin installing the Rockford upgrade package. This audio system includes new fairing speakers, a high-power four-channel amplifier and 6×9 speakers with custom grilles for the saddlebags.
Our team installed the TMS65 6.5-inch speakers in the fairing and upgraded the grilles to the Rockford-branded units from the kit. Next, they mounted a TM400X4ad four-channel amplifier just above the factory radio using the mounting plate and heatsink extension that was provided. This amplifier is rated to produce up to 100 watts of power from each channel to ensure that the client will hear his music with amazing clarity.
Harley Bag Lid Speakers
The coolest part of this kit is the speaker upgrade for the saddlebag lids. Instead of purchasing new lids that need to be painted to match the rest of the bike, Rockford provides a 6×9 speaker mount and grille design that uses the existing lid cover. Rather than taking days to turn the installation around, we had the new TMS69 speakers and their grilles installed and the wiring routed up to the amplifier in just a few hours.
Radio Reflash Ensures Great Sound
The last step to install the Rockford Stage 3 kit on this Harley was to use our laptop to reflash the Boom! Box radio. Harley radios come with an equalization curve that can make good speakers sound horrible. Without this important step, high-power amplifiers like the TM400X4ad can damage speakers quickly.
Custom Lighting Upgrade
The client asked us to add some custom lighting underneath his Harley. We installed an XKGlow under-bike lighting kit that uses RGB LED strips and a Bluetooth interface to allow the client to adjust the color of the lights. We helped the client install the XK Glow app on his phone and pair it to the controller before leaving.
Maryland’s Motorcycle Audio Upgrade Experts
After configuring the crossover and level controls on the amplifier to optimize each set of speakers’ performance, it was time to return this cool touring bike to the owner. He hopped on the bike to have a listen and was thrilled! If you want to upgrade your Harley sound system with a system like this Stage 3 kit from Rockford, drop by Westminster Speed and Sound or give us a call.
