A local client brought his new 2023 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special motorcycle to Westminster Speed and Sound to ask about upgrading the sound system. Although the radio on the bike had all the features he wanted, the small 5.25-inch speakers in the front fairing didn’t sound good or play loudly enough. Fortunately, we’ve upgraded the sound systems on many Harleys, so we had a good idea of what would impress him.
Infinity Kappa Perfect Harley-Davidson Speaker Upgrade
The first order of business was to disassemble the fairing so we could remove the stock speakers. The client chose a set of Infinity Kappa Perfect 600X 6.5-inch speakers for the front of the bike. This coaxial speaker set includes new grilles for the front fairings and for the Tour-Pak locations on the rear of the bike.
The client chose the matching Kappa Perfect 900X 6×9 speakers for the rear speakers. The kit includes mounting brackets and grilles that allow our technicians to install the speakers in the rear saddlebag lids. Upgrading the stock lids eliminates the need for custom painting and lets us finish the project in a few hours instead of a few days.
Cicada Audio Amplifier Solution
Creating great sound in any environment requires good speakers, a powerful amplifier and proper system configuration. The client chose one of the Cicada Audio DSP600.4D four-channel amplifiers to power the front and rear speakers. This amplifier includes a digital signal processor with an eight-band equalizer on each channel and electronic crossovers.
After one of our technicians flashed the stock radio to remove most of the built-in equalizer settings, we used our real-time audio analyzer to measure each speaker’s output on the bike. The EQ in the amp allowed us to fine-tune each speaker’s frequency response to ensure that every type of music would sound fantastic.
The amplifier is installed just above the radio in the fairing, and we used a Cicada Audio HDPRO4K power and speaker wire kit to make all the connections. The kit comes with the same connectors that Harley-Davidson uses, so we didn’t have to modify any of the wiring on the bike. Cutting wires can potentially affect the warranty on a new motorcycle.
Baltimore’s Harley-Davidson Audio Experts
After a full day’s work, this gorgeous Street Glide sounded amazing. The client hopped on for a listen and was thrilled with the improved sound quality and output capability. He loved that everything looked as though it came from the factory.
