The owner of this 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide traveled from Sykesville to Westminster Speed and Sound for an audio system upgrade. He liked the features of the factory-installed radio, but the system didn’t play loudly enough or sound clear at high volume levels. After listening to a few amplifier and speaker options, the client chose products from ARC Audio and Rockford Fosgate to bring the stereo on his cruiser to life.
Rockford Stage 3 Sound System Upgrade
We based the upgrade on this Harley around a Rockford HD14RGSG-STAGE3 upgrade system. The kit includes a four-channel TM400X4ad amplifier that produces 100 watts of power per channel, a mounting bracket and wiring for the amp, and the amazing TMS69BL14 bag lid speaker kit. We upgraded the front speakers from the package to a set of ARC Audio MOTO 602 speakers for better sound.
Our technicians brought the bike into our shop and connected the battery to a charger to keep it topped up while we worked. We removed the front fairing cover, the saddle and the bag lid covers to start the upgrade. The new ARC Audio speakers fit directly into the enclosures in the front fairing without any modifications. The wiring and amp mounting kit places the Rockford amp above the stock radio chassis and ensures that the wiring connections are reliable.
Saddlebag Speaker Upgrade
We really like the design of the Rockford TMS69BL14 kit. Instead of installing new lid covers and trying to match the paint, this kit includes a cutting template that allows us to add a set of weather-resistant 6×9 speakers with custom grilles to the top of the original bag lids. Instead of days waiting for paint, we can have these installed in just a few hours.
Harley Radio Recalibration and Amplifier Configuration
Where the magic happens with this upgrade is in the way our team configures the amp to work with the factory-installed Boom! Box radio. We flashed the radio to remove some of the equalization that is applied to the tiny factory speakers. The signal isn’t perfectly flat, but once amplified and fed to the new Rockford and ARC Audio speakers, it sounds amazing. The last step was to set the crossovers and sensitivity controls on the amp so that the system will play loudly without distorting.
