A client from Baltimore recently contacted the team at Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about upgrading his 2017 Ram 2500 with a new stereo and a remote starter system. We began the qualification process by inspecting the vehicle and talking to the client to learn more about how he likes to listen to his music. Next, we reviewed the client’s expectations for the starter to help him choose a remote control option that would meet his range needs. Using this information, we designed an upgrade solution and provided the client with a detailed quote to complete the integration process.
Pickup Truck Stereo System Upgrade
The client wanted more bass, clarity and output from the stereo in his truck. We started by removing the 6×9-inch door speakers to make way for a set of Audiofrog GS60 premium midrange speakers. We installed the new speakers using a set of adapters that allow the 6.5-inch round speakers to be mounted in place of the factory-installed door speakers. Next, we removed the speakers from the dash and made angled brackets for a set of Audiofrog GS10 tweeters. The angle on the tweeters helps to improve high-frequency extension.
We installed a PAC AP4-CH41 AmpPro4 interface in the truck to extract an audio signal from the factory radio and feed it to a JL Audio VX1000/5i five-channel amplifier. The amp is mounted to the back wall of the truck and is wired with JL Audio power cable and interconnects. The four main channels of the amplifier power the Audiofrog speakers with up to 75 watts each in an active configuration. The 600-watt subwoofer channel drives a JL Audio SB-D-QDRAMD/10TW1 Stealthbox subwoofer enclosure that is mounted under the rear seat. This Ram-specific enclosure is home to a pair of 10-inch 10TW1 subwoofers. This enclosure is constructed of fiberglass to fit the contours of the storage area under the seats perfectly and optimize the available space in the enclosure to deliver good low-frequency extension.
The VXi series amplifiers include a built-in digital signal processor that our team used to tune the sound system. We configured the crossovers, level controls, equalization and signal delay for each of the five speakers in the system processor to create a very realistic and natural sounding listening experience. The result is similar to what you’d hear if you were sitting at the mixing console in a world-class recording studio.
Ram 2500 Remote Starter
The client wanted a reliable remote starter that would allow him to warm his truck in the winter without having to leave his home. Our technicians integrated a Compustar control module and a DroneMobile smartphone interface into the vehicle. The client can use the DroneMobile app on his phone to send start, lock and unlock commands to the vehicle from anywhere that he has access to the internet.
Baltimore’s Truck Enhancement Experts
With the audio and remote starter system installation complete, we let the client know his Ram 2500 was ready to go. We helped him set up the DroneMobile app on his smartphone and invited him to have a listen to the new stereo. He was blown away by how much clearer and more detailed the system is.
