A repeat client stopped in to see us with his 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera. It is the last generation of air-cooled Porsche vehicles, known as the 993 series. As this car was almost 30 years old, the stereo system was very tired and needed more technology. After consulting with the client, we created several system designs, and the owner chose the system described below.
Our team began by installing a Porsche Classic Radio in the dash. It gives him Apple CarPlay, turn-by-turn navigation, and Bluetooth, moving his car into the 21st century. The “black box” Porsche supplies was installed in the ashtray, so it is completely hidden when no cables are connected. Next up was addressing the speakers. We wanted the car to look original, so all the factory speaker grills were retained. We used BLAM L165LSQ 6.5″ component speakers in the front doors on custom composite mounts and their 100RS 4″ component package in the rear deck. Again, we made composite mounts to hold the speakers.
When it came time for power, we selected a Match M5.4DSP that can deliver up to 60 watts of clean power to each of the four speakers. It also comes with an integrated digital signal processor that allows us to fine-tune the sound coming out of each speaker by sitting in it with a laptop and a sophisticated microphone assembly.
The result is clarity and output that rivals or exceeds many modern stereo systems. When the client came to pick up his Porsche 911, he was thrilled with our workmanship and the drastically improved technology. Do you own a classic Porsche in need of help?
