A client from Aberdeen recently brought this spectacular 2018 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide to Westminster Speed and Sound to have the audio system upgraded. Even with the upgraded Boom! Audio system that includes lower speaker mounts, the system wasn’t loud or clear enough. Our team let the client audition our demo bike, and then we designed an upgrade based on feedback and listening preferences.
CVO Harley-Davidson Stereo Upgrade
The first step was to remove the stock Harley speakers from the front fairing, the lower speaker enclosures on either side of the radiator and the saddlebag lids. We installed two pairs of Rockford Fosgate TMS65 6.5-inch coaxial powersport speakers in the front locations and matched them with a pair of 5×7-inch TMS57 coaxial speakers in the bag lids. All of these speakers are designed as drop-in replacements, and they don’t require any modifications to this prestigious CVO bike. Best of all, the speakers are constructed with UV-resistant materials and can withstand dust, dirt and rain without any issues.
Next, our team mounted a Rockford Fosgate TM400X4ad four-channel amplifier above the radio in the fairing. This four-channel amplifier is rated to produce at least 100 watts of power per channel to ensure that the client’s music will be loud and clear, even with the volume cranked. We used a Rockford Fosgate RFKHD14 installation kit to mount the amp on the bike, connect it to the battery and integrate it with the original radio.
Harley Radio Reflash Delivers Smooth Sound
The last step in the upgrade process was for our technician to reconfigure the Boom! Box radio using our TechnoResearch programmer. The factory-installed radio includes a significant amount of equalization that, when left untouched, sounds terrible through high-quality speakers. Without this important step, the system would still play louder, but it wouldn’t sound much better.
Baltimore’s Best Motorcycle Audio System Upgrades
It took our team most of a day to complete the installation and calibrate the amp to work with the reconfigured radio and the new speakers. The client had left the bike with us for a week, since it’s more than an hour’s drive to Aberdeen – and likely even longer on a weekday. When he returned to check out the upgrade, he was thrilled! The system played louder and sounded exactly the way he wanted.
