A client from Severna Park recently visited Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about upgrading the stereo system on his 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide touring bike. He loved the bike but wanted the sound system to play a lot louder and offer improved clarity while maintaining OEM-quality reliability and cosmetics. We invited the client to audition our Harley demo bike, and he was immediately in love!
Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Amplifier Upgrade
One of the most important aspects of achieving great sound on a Harley is to ensure that the speakers have enough power so they can play clearly at high volume levels. The client chose one of the ARC Audio Moto 600.4 amplifiers for his bike. The Moto 600.4 is not only a great-sounding amplifier, it is one of the most efficient on the market. This efficiency eases the load on the bike’s electrical system.
We mounted the amp on top of the factory source unit and connected it to the output of the radio. As you can see, all the wiring is bundled and secured with automotive-grade tape to prevent buzzes and rattles while the bike rolls down the road.
Premium Motorcycle Speakers for Great Sound
With the amp in place, the next step was to upgrade the speakers on the bike. The client chose a set of the ARC Audio Moto-602 speakers for the front fairing and the cool Rockford Fosgate TMS69BL14 bag lid speaker kit for the rear. The ARC speakers drop right into the factory mounting locations with no modifications and include a water-resistant design for great reliability.
The bag lid speaker kit from Rockford allows us to install a set of 6×9-inch coaxial speakers in the factory bag lids. The kit includes a cutting template and two-piece mounting bracket and grille assembly that clamps over the factory bag cover. Using the original bag lid eliminates the need for custom paint matching from a replacement solution.
Harley-Davidson Touring Motorcycle Stereo Upgrade
The last step was to use our programmer to reflash the factory radio to remove the strange equalization curve that the bike comes with. Failure to address this aspect of the upgrade can result in damaged equipment and poor sound quality.
With the level controls and settings on the amplifier optimized for the client’s speaker choice, we reassembled the bike to prepare it for its return to the client. The client hopped on the bike and cranked up his favorite music. The upgrade was exactly what he wanted, and he couldn’t wait to get out for a ride.
