A client from Shamokin, Pennsylvania, recently contacted Westminster Speed and Sound to inquire about upgrading the stereo system on his 2017 Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide. The trike already had the Boom! Audio Stage II upgrades, but the owner still wasn’t happy with the performance. After consulting with the owner about what he liked and wanted to improve, we designed a system that would deliver the sound quality and output capabilities he desired. He loaded his bike onto a trailer and drove 2.5 hours for us to complete the upgrade.
Premium Motorcycle Speakers Set the Stage
Choosing great speakers is one of the most critical components in any audio system upgrade. Based on their sound quality and output capabilities, we suggested three sets of Infinity Kappa Perfect 600X speakers for this Harley-Davidson trike. These speakers feature a Basalt fiber woofer cone design with a high-roll rubber surround design that helps them deliver impressive output and efficiency. The kit comes with grilles that work with the front fairing, rear fender and the Tour Pak locations on this Tri-Glide.
Motorcycle Amplifier Integration Done Right
Our team started the amplifier integration by using our programmer to reflash the radio to a setting with much subtler equalization. Without this step, the radio’s output distorts easily, and speakers can be damaged. Next, we installed a Rockford Fosgate DSR1 digital signal processor on the radio’s output.
Finally, we mounted an ARC Audio Moto 720 amplifier on top of the radio in the fairing using ARC Audio’s CVO-specific harness and rear speaker wiring. This harness features OEM-grade connectors that allow us to upgrade the audio system without cutting any wires. The Moto 720 amplifier is one of the most efficient solutions on the market and is our go-to anytime a client wants the best audio system performance possible.
System Configuration Ensures Reliability
The final step was to set up our audio analyzer to measure the speakers’ output in the listening position. We set the equalizer and crossover in the DSR1 processor to ensure the system would play loudly and clearly, even at high volume levels.
Once the system was upgraded and tested, we invited the client to hop on the trike for a listen. He was thrilled with the results. The music was crystal clear and played louder than he’d hoped for.
