A client from up in York, Pennsylvania, recently contacted the Westminster Speed and Sound team to ask about upgrading the stereo on his 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. As is typical with touring bike owners, the client wasn’t impressed with the stock audio system’s clarity and felt that it didn’t play loudly enough. After discussing the client’s expectations and goals, we suggested Rockford Fosgate’s HD14RGSG-STAGE3 upgrade for this bike. This solution would address speaker quality and amplifier power requirements to deliver the sound he wanted. He approved our plan, and we scheduled an appointment to begin work on the vehicle.
Motorcycle Speakers Improve Clarity
We started by removing the stock speakers from the front fairing to make way for a set of Rockford Fosgate’s TMS65 6.5-inch coaxial drivers. These speakers are a direct drop-in replacement and don’t require any modifications to the bike. For rear speakers, we removed the saddlebag lids to install the matching TMS69BL14 rear speaker kit. This kit includes grilles, mounting brackets and a set of TMS69 speakers. What makes the kit unique is that it’s designed to use the stock bag lids as the mounting solution. We trimmed the corners of the lids and had the speakers installed in a few hours. This upgrade is much faster than conventional bag lid kits that require custom paintwork.
Rockford Power-Series Motorcycle Amplifier
We mounted a Rockford TM400X4ad four-channel amplifier in the front fairing using the RFK-HD14 installation kit. This amp is rated to produce 100 watts of power per channel so the client can crank the volume without any fear of unwanted distortion. For this audio system’s upgrade design, it was essential that all the wiring for the new components be plugged into the factory wiring on the bike. This ensures that the manufacturer’s warranty remains intact, an important consideration on a motorcycle of this caliber and vintage.
We finished off the upgrade by flashing the Boom! Box radio to a different speaker configuration to remove much of the equalization curve they use. This process dramatically improves the sound of the system and is crucial to this upgrade being successful and reliable.

After a long day of work, we had the new Rockford stereo installed and configured to sound great on this 2020 Street Glide. The client was thrilled with the system’s performance! If you are interested in making the stereo on your Harley sound the way it should have from the factory, drop by Westminster Speed and Sound and speak to a member of our award-winning team.
