A repeat client from Sykesville came to Westminster Speed and Sound in search of a technology upgrade for his 2015 Nissan NV van. As we looked over the vehicle together, the client gave us his list of improvements he wanted to see installed. Our team offered suggestions during the conversation. We worked up a proposal that he liked, so we set a time to begin working on the vehicle.
Installing Cutting-edge Technology in the Dash
This van is used to haul around the family and for trips together. With that in mind, we knew the first step would be some quality electronics in the dash. Our team installed a Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX in-dash navigation system, which instantly gave the client cutting-edge technology in the dash. Apple CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto are now on tap, making it easy to control a smartphone while driving. Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming are also on tap. We flush-mounted two USB ports in a convenient spot in the dash, allowing him to charge and control his portable electronic devices.
Keeping Factory Options Intact Is Important
When the team at Westminster Speed does an install, we want the finished vehicle to see improvements, not have drawbacks. Why would anyone want to install a navigation system in the dash and lose some of the original elements that drew them to the vehicle? For this reason, our team created a custom circuit so the factory Nissan backup camera can be displayed on the Pioneer screen. We also integrated the factory steering wheel audio controls with the Pioneer unit, making it easy for the driver to access his favorite functions while focusing on the road ahead.
Rear Seat Entertainment Keeps the Kids Entertained
When you go on trips, you want to keep the kids entertained, and one of the best ways to do that is an overhead video system. Our installers mounted an integrated DVD/Video screen in the headliner that can be seen by all the passengers in the van. The Pioneer unit has a built-in DVD player, so we connected it to the inputs on the overhead, giving the driver an easy way to control the videos that are played on the screen. Wireless headphones allow the passengers to listen to the sound in quiet while the front row folks can listen to their favorite music. We installed a total of four USB charging ports for the passengers so they can keep their portable electronics going on those long excursions.
Remote Start Rounds Out the Package
The final piece of the puzzle was a remote car starter. We chose our 2WG9 system, which is a two-way model. Whatever function the driver asks of the van gets confirmed back to the remote once it has been executed. This model has great range, so it opens up the opportunity to warm up or cool down the vehicle when out to dinner, at the grocery store, at work or at almost any social event.
