Westminster Speed and Sound offers the best remote starter sales and installations around Baltimore, Maryland, and southern Pennsylvania. Here are the answers to our clients’ ten most common remote start questions.
1. How long does it take to install a remote starter?
For most vehicles, we schedule 2.5 to 4 hours for an installation, which includes our detailed check-in and check-out inspection. When we’re done, we’ll show you how to operate the system and answer any questions you have.
2. Do I need to carry more than one remote key fob?
We can usually replace factory remotes with a long-range remote control. If your vehicle has a keyless push-to-start system, you’ll need to carry the factory key fob.
3. Can’t I just use my factory remote?
We can link remote starting functionality to a button sequence on many factory remotes. That said, factory remotes don’t provide the range that our systems offer. The convenience of being able to start your vehicle from inside the mall, an office building or apartment is appealing to most clients.
4. Does the temperature outside affect my remote starter?
Our systems work in all weather conditions. If your vehicle would start with the key, then it will start with our remote starter. The remote starter systems we install are manufactured with premium components that can handle the coldest of days here in Maryland and southern Pennsylvania.
5. My friend told me you use a bypass on my factory security system.
Most new vehicles will only start with a key that is programmed to the vehicle. The integration modules we use communicate with the computer in your car to allow it to start. This process is efficient, extremely secure and reliable.
6. Can someone steal my car after I remote start it?
Quite simply, no. Your doors remain locked after you remote start the vehicle. Our systems are configured to shut down if someone touches the brake pedal without turning the ignition on. Finally, your steering column will remain locked until you get in the car and turn it on.
7. Do I have to give up my spare key?
In most cases, no. Some rare exceptions use advanced security protocols that do require that we integrate a spare key into the system.
8. Will a remote starter void my warranty?
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects you. So, the short answer is no. The combination of our warranty-friendly installation techniques and the premium products we use ensure that your warranty remains intact.
9. I only have one key for my car. Do I need two?
Some vehicles require two keys so that we can program the data integration module to your vehicle. If you only have one key, get in touch with us. We can work on a solution together.
10. Are you going to surprise me with additional charges?
We don’t provide one-size-fits-all pricing when we quote a remote starter system. Our quotation process involves ensuring we have the right parts for your vehicle based on the year, make, model and trim level information you provide.
