A local client brought his 2018 Tesla Model S P100D to Westminster Speed and Sound for premium window tint and a custom radar detector and laser defense system. When your car can bolt from a dead stop to 60 miles per hour in as little as 2.28 seconds, having a helping hand to watch for speed traps is a wise investment. The client had done his homework on the solutions he wanted. Our team was happy to provide him with those products and our expert installation services to enhance this amazing electric vehicle.
Escort Radar Detector
The client chose an Escort MAX CI radar detector to provide him with warnings about police officers with X, K and Ka-band radar guns. We mounted the GPS-based radar-receiving antenna on the front bumper support beam near the passenger-side headlight. The rear antenna is mounted just below the rear support beam in the center of the vehicle. Because of radar signals’ short wavelengths, they can pass through the plastic bumpers with no degradation.
The Escort system’s display is mounted in the top left corner of the windshield on an ABS plastic bracket. This location keeps it out of the way while driving, but it’s easily viewable when the driver wants to see the information. The control for the Escort system is mounted to the front of the center storage bin. The client can easily reach down with his right hand to make adjustments to the system.
Al Priority Laser Defense System
The client chose an AL Priority stand-alone system for protection against police lidar guns. Our team mounted three of the Laser Sensors in the front grille. As is crucial with all laser systems, we used a level and jig to make sure each sensor was parallel to the ground and aimed directly forward to optimize long-range performance. The controller for the ALP system is also mounted on the front of the center console.
Once we had both the Escort and AL Priority systems installed, we tested them with our radar and lidar guns to ensure that they functioned correctly.
Premium Window Tint Adds Comfort
The client wanted a window tint that would offer the best heat rejection possible. We installed 3M Crystalline 40% film on the side and rear windows, then 70% on the massive front window. Crystalline can block as much as 97% of the heat-causing infrared energy from the sun. The tint also reduces glare by 55% to make driving more comfortable. We cut all of our tint film on a plotter so that there’s no chance of scratching the glass or trim on our clients’ vehicles.
Baltimore’s Automotive Enhancement Experts
With the radar and lidar speeding ticket protection systems installed and the 3M tint installation complete, it was time for the client to return to Westminster Speed and Sound to pick up his vehicle. We reviewed how the Escort and AL Priority systems function and explained how to use them to avoid tickets. We also explained how to care for the window tint to ensure that it would last the life of the vehicle.
