A customer from Eldersburg, Maryland came to WSS Westminster Speed & Sound with his 2007 Toyota Tundra double cab looking to integrate his iPhone into his vehicle plus improve the sound quality of his audio system. We went outside to his truck and scoped it out together.
Sony XAV602BT In The Dash
Upon looking over the vehicle we realized that it was in his best interest to replace the stock Toyota radio with a Sony XAV602BT. This unit has a touchscreen display that will fully integrate with his iPhone, allowing music streaming, wireless Bluetooth hands free for his phone, full control over his music library and the Pandora internet radio app. The LCD screen also allowed us to install a backup camera, which is a great addition on any vehicle, but is especially helpful on a pickup truck.
German Maestro CS6508 Speakers Up Front
Now that his iPhone is integrated into the vehicle, we turned our attention to the sound system. We installed German Maestro CS6508 speakers in the stock locations in the front doors and dash locations. These speakers are a huge improvement in clarity and detail over the stock speakers. You will notice in the pictures that there is a foam ring surrounding the woofer in the door. This ring couples the front of the speaker with the door panel so that all of the sound plays into the cabin of the vehicle, resulting in much better bass response. We used his JL Audio JX360/2 amplifier from his previous vehicle to power the German Maestro speakers.
JL Audio Stealthbox Makes The Bass
For low end bass response we installed a JL Audio Stealthbox under the driver’s side rear seat. This is a fiberglass enclosure that houses an 8W7 subwoofer. W7 subwoofers are world-renowned as one of the best sounding speakers on the planet. The enclosure comes in a color matched carpet and gets bolted into the vehicle for stability. It is a unique design in that it fires into the back wall of the cab, effectively increasing the output while also protecting the cone of the driver. A Hertz HCP1D amplifier was used to supply 700 watts of clean power to the Stealthbox. The Sony radio power ran the stock rear speakers in instances when sound was needed for rear seat passengers.
One Happy Client!
When the client came to pick up the vehicle he was completely thrilled! He said he had always wanted a car audio system that had great clarity, and that when he cranked it up it stayed crystal clear. He high-fived us when we demo’ed it to him. That is what we live for here at WSS. Happy clients! If you own a Toyota Tundra and would like to improve the quality of the sound system, call us, Contact Us, or even better stop in with the truck. We know them very well and would be honored to help you build a sound system worthy of a high-five.
