Westminster Speed and Sound has been selling truck steps since 1969. That is a long time. Over the years, we have seen trends come and go, but two primary themes always stay the same. Our clients want a secure place to rest their feet when entering and exiting a vehicle, and they want improved cosmetics. Here are some of our most popular truck step, nerf bar and running board options.
Power Steps are the Ultimate in Truck Steps
If you are looking for the ultimate in truck steps, our Power Steps are for you. Imagine walking up to your truck or SUV, opening a door and seeing a step drop down from against the rocker panel in less than a second, giving you a long, stable place to place your foot. Depending upon the model, the step will drop down 6 or 9 inches. Strategically placed LED lighting will illuminate the ground and the steps themselves, allowing you to clearly see what you are doing in the dark.
After you close the last door, the steps will motorize back into their retracted position after 2 to 3 seconds. Since they are normally up tight against the side of your vehicle, they aren’t as exposed to rain, snow, ice and dirt. What that means to you is a more stable place to rest your foot.
Nerf Bars Come in all Shapes and Sizes
Another popular style of truck steps is known as nerf bars. They are made of tubular metal and commonly come in black and polished stainless steel finishes. They run along the side of your pickup or SUV and improve the cosmetics. In the early days, you could get them in a 3” diameter round tubing, but nowadays, the sizes and styles are all over the map. We have round tubing in multiple diameters, as well as oval and square tubing. Some models have recesses in key areas for your foot, while others have a flat surface that runs the whole length of the bar.
N-Fab Style Steps Give You that Weekend Warrior Look
In more-recent years, a company called N-Fab has burst onto the scene, delivering solutions that actually work while having a rugged, industrial look. Most of their models use a round tube that sits tight against the side of the vehicle and then has a step that extends down from the tube at each door opening. They even offer models for trucks that extend from wheel to wheel and give you a step for side-bed access. Popular finishes include black, textured and polished stainless.
Running Boards Come in Classic and Modern Styles
When you talk about truck steps, running boards are where it all started. In the earlier days, they were made of diamond-plated aluminum in simple, angular designs. This style is still available and very popular on commercial and industrial vehicles for its extremely durable design. As vehicles got more and more swoopy, the traditional running board didn’t fit the lines of these modern trucks and SUVs.
Fortunately, manufacturers responded and came out with models that flow well with current trends. Many of our models will curve in toward the body at the ends, making for a sleek appearance. Popular finishes include black, stainless and a combination of both.
